Lake Ray Hubbard Fishing | Spring Break

Lake Ray Hubbard fishing has been very good this week of spring break . I did have 1 very tough day ... We had to start mid morning and only had a few hours to fish . The fish on that day had lock jaw until I went out later that afternoon and they turned on . I have been putting limits of fish in the boat wether 2 ,3 or 4 guest . One morning the bite was slow till mid morning, the next day the bite started as soon as we dropped our lures first thing in the morning . I have tried various sizes in lures to see if it made a difference but it really did not. Sometimes they want smaller lures like the 1.0 oz SSS or JD Slumpbuster and other days you could get away with the 1.5 oz Godfather slabs and the wind also played a big part in the selection. All slabs topped with 3 in curly tail Grubs about 1ft above . A late afternoon I fished we had birds working and the 3/4 dead head jig head with a 4 in CocaMoe minnow work very well as with the smaller RH McQueen Tail Spinner .. When you find feeding fish this time of year those are perfect baits to throw. I have also noticed with most of the fish i have cleaned that they had small 3 in shad in their bellies . The males are starting to mix in with the fat females ... The wind has made some days more difficult to fish areas that I want to but have managed . I have tried a little bit of shallow water but have caught very few that way so far...it probably depends on the day and winds but that bite should turn on real shortly . Water temps have ranged from 52-57 degrees and the winds as you know have been brutal at times ... My best depth has still been 25-29 ft and a couple of times 22-24 ft depending on water temps for that day . Lure presentation has been a slow lift... Be sure to watch your graph ... When fish are suspended more then crank up a couple turns then slow raise the slab ..when you mark them right on bottom raise slow and drop even slower, a lot of times you almost drop it in their mouths. I was able to mix a couple days of fun fishing as well.. And it is pretty neat to fish with guest that you see their kids grow up each year . Fishing should remain good and April is always an awesome month to fish ...
