Lake Ray Hubbard White Bass Fishing
March madness is finally over , I am not talking about the college playoffs!! White Bass Fishing was up and down this year during the spawn. The amount of rain and rising water confused these fish a little bit . White Bass do not care for muddy water and the inflow from Rowlett creek and East Fork Trinity river did just that on multiple occasions . This time of year on Lake Ray Hubbard the cold fronts also affect the white bass during the spawn. One day you locate good fish and then the next you couldn't find any signs of life !!
White Bass Patterns
When white bass spawn they will be located on windward point, shallow
tops of humps and flats. The males , which are smaller will move in
first then the females. Lake Ray Hubbard is an excellent white bass lake
especially during the spring. Hybrid striper where difficult to locate
but that will change here in April. White bass and hybrid stiper are done spawning then the shad spawn. Shad are the natural bait that they feed on. White bass and hybrid striper will move shallow to feed. There still will be fish spawning also especially with the warming temps. We will start catching these fish in 2-4 ft of water . You need to also check the deeper ends of points as the fish will stage .
White Bass Lures
During April we will be throwing very shallow to locate white bass and hybrid stripers. the best white bass lures are the 3 inch Co Ho with a 1/2 oz head and light inline spinners. Find the windy points , flats and cuts in the shore line then chunk and whined to locate pockets of white bass and hybrid striper.
